Aberdour Vs Colglen: 1-7

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

After four matches cancelled because of unplayable pitches ColGlen’s season finally got underway in a successful fixture against Aberdour. The East coast side, who played host on a picturesque pitch set in a park overlooking the Firth of Forth, were comprehensively beaten by a rusty visiting side.

Having not run out on a fullsize pitch since last year it took until the second half for the ColGlen side to really gel, although they scored twice before the break, first through a scrambled shot by Charles Dixon-Spain and then by a peach of a strike from outside the 10 yard area by Kenny Allen. It took a while for the younger players to settle but Sandy MacVicar and Willie MacVicar were immediately at home on the ball providing handy defence and quick cross-balls respectively, and Daniel Watt showed speed and commitment against his very able opposite number.

At 0-2 down the home side then produced some good play in the midfield and fairly dominated the last quarter of an hour of the first half. Their verve and enthusiasm produced no results however as Stuart McKellar, John Mcfarlane and Donny McPhail proved so obdurate in defence that Aberdour only had one shot on goal. A shot which was beautifully parried by ColGlen captain Alan McLeod.

The second half saw ColGlen shake off the rust and take control of the game. The midfield began to fire on all cylinders, with Rupert Williamson and Iain McKellar creating space and time for the forward halves to close in on an already shaky Aberdour defence. Ronnie MacVicar and Kenny Allen both rifled shots home from 20 yards, and Jamie Sutton and Charles Dixon-Spain both netted rebounds from others’ shots.

At 0-6 the homeside finally struck, but it was mere consolation as Martin McFarlane scored in the final minutes, when he took an opportunist’s point by blocking the goalkeeper’s clearance with his back, beating two defenders and firing a ball from the edge of the D into the back of the net.

ColGlen: McLeod (c), J. McFarlane, S. McKellar, McPhail, A. MacVicar, R. MacVicar(1), Williamson, Sutton (1), Watt (I. McKellar), W. MacVicar, Allen (2) (M. McFarlane(1)), Dixon-Spain (2)

Next fixture: ColGlen vs Kyles at home. 2.30pm on 6th April, Glendaruel.

Community Council Respond to Calmac Draft Harbour Empowerment Order

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

On 25th March 2007 Colintraive and Glendaruel Community Council made an initial response to the Draft Harbour Empowerment Order served in February by McGrigor’s Solicitors on behalf of Calmac. The letter is as follows:

Mr D Willis
Ports and International Division
Area 2-F
Victoria Quay
EH6 6QQ

Dear Sir

On behalf of the Colintraive and Glendaruel Community, I wish to make an objection to the application by Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd to establish that company as the statutory harbour authority for Colintraive Harbour.

The main reason for the objection is the complete lack of consultation with the local community despite the company’s assurance that they would do so prior to their application for such an order.

The local community is of the opinion that the order is being presented as a ‘fait accompli’, that the geographic limits of the order are excessive and that future restrictions will prevent access to and use of, traditional launching and mooring areas. There are also misgivings about the company’s power to build, alter, reclaim, etc without local consultation, not to mention questions of road traffic, parking and light pollution.

In short, we do not think this order should be granted without further local consultation and we request as a start point, a public meeting with all parties concerned.

Yours faithfully,

James McLuckie
Chairman
