Have you got a business idea for the Development Trust? A plan which will run as a social enterprise and contribute to ColGlen’s economic and social viability? If you have the Colintraive and Glendaruel Development Trust would like to hear about it!

The Development Trust will consider any viable plan: from Microhydro schemes throughout the community, to a laundry service; from a farm shop selling local produce to running a commercial bus service between Colintraive and Strachur – whatever the idea is, the CGDT will be glad to give it serious consideration.

Once you have submitted the idea, the board will run it through our assessment criteria. If the idea scores well enough a business plan will need to be prepared. If you have opted to be kept informed as to the idea’s progress, we’ll come back to you and ask you more about your idea and your vision for it.

In partnership with the community, the Development Trust will be putting together a series of initiatives which will form a coherent vision for the future for ColGlen – contributing your ideas now could have a significant impact on that process, influencing strategy for years to come.

IT IS IN summers’ like this we bless our “all weather” green!   We have played every Tuesday and Friday, with attendances ranging from six to sixteen.  Club trophies have been hotly contested - the Men’s singles won by Jim Cook, r/u Euan Black; Ladies singles went to Jessie McNaughton, r/u Nan Cook. Pair’s trophy was won by Euan and Jessie, r/u Curly Black and Alex McNaughton.

We are a small club, but we manage to send representatives to competitions run by other clubs in the area, with some success this season.  Some of our players have competed at national level - Jessie McNaughton reached the semi-final of the Daily Record Singles competition held in Rothesay;   Curly Black played in the semi final of the Harry Gordon competition in Dunoon.   We congratulate them both.

We have also hosted visits from neighbouring clubs and visited them for friendly competitions - a fun day on 12th July at Innellan, an afternoon of bowling in the sunshine finished off with fish’n’chips in the clubhouse.

IT IS NOT long now before we start a new season of Fellowship lunches and the Committee look forward to welcoming old and new members to our meetings. This session we have a combination of our usual soup and sandwich lunches plus guest speaker, the very popular Christmas Dinner, the final Cheese and Wine Quiz night and a new addition to our programme in November.

This we have planned as an outing by coach, probably to Dobbies’ Garden Centre near Stirling when we will have an opportunity to browse around their Christmas displays and have a bite to eat in what we understand is a very pleasant restaurant.  There will more information on this outing at our first meeting.

For your diaries, the following are the dates of meetings up to and including Christmas:-

Monday 20th November:
At 1pm Glendaruel Village Hall. Soup and sandwich lunch followed by guest speaker, Christina Noble on the “Here We Are” Project at Cairndow.

Monday 17th November:
Coach Trip.  More details at the first meeting.

Monday 15th December:
At Colintraive Hall.  Christmas Dinner, when we hope to use the caterers who provided such good meal last year.

Altogether we hope our meetings will brighten up what may well be a wet and dark winter …… so see you all on 20th October!

THE ANNUAL BBQ held at Colintraive raised the sum of £1,125 for Yorkhill Children’s Hospital.  A super day was had in lovely sunshine with the ‘Saddlebags’, our local Country Western Band keeping everyone entertained.  The food was excellent, as were the teas served inside the hall.  Goods for sale were quickly snapped up and the raffle had a great deal of wonderful prizes.

It was also an emotional day for Alex and Jessie McNaughton, family, relatives and friends who were saying their goodbyes to Brian and Anne McNaughton, Eilidh, Cally and Neily who were emigrating to Australia the following day.  The annual BBQ was normally organised by Anne due to youngest son Neily having been treated at Yorkhill three years ago.  This year the event was organised for Anne by her friends.  Alex McNaughton proposed a vote of thanks to everyone at the end of the day.

SUZY MUNRO has been practicing Aromatherapy and Reflexology since she qualified after studying for three years at Cardonald College where she received a Diploma in Holistic Therapies after her daughter was born in 1995.
She originally practised from her own shop plus a mobile service but gave it up when she and her family moved to Dunoon in 2003.  Suzy currently practices part-time from a Health Shop in Dunoon and continues to give a mobile service.
Suzy, husband David and daughter Heather currently live at Duiletter where they moved to last year.  However, the Munro family are not quite newcomers to the Glen due to having stayed and holidayed with David’s parents at their caravan which they have had at the Glendaruel Caravan Park for 27 years.  Anyone interested in receiving aromatherapy or reflexology at home from Suzy’s mobile service can contact her on – 01369 820199 and 07818-431-229.
