Councillor’s Report - Spring 08
Tuesday, May 6th, 2008Alex McNaughton, our local
Argyll & Bute Councillor,
revisits roads and water issues.
Although I have been kept busy, there is not a great deal to report locally. Roads are probably the greatest concern for people and the sides of the road to Dunoon are in a terrible state and I, among others, am continually pressing for these holes at the sides and potholes generally, to be filled in. The offlets and ditches are badly neglected and are even more obvious with the wet weather we have had.
The latest update on the Achanelid bridge (see above) is that it will be closed from12th May to 18th July. This will allow for the construction of a new bridge but during this time the work will entail a long diversion for those at Achanelid when heading down the Glen. With this new bridge and the new bridge and road across at the Caravan Park the West Glen will then be fit for larger vehicles helping farm access and timber extraction.
Looking further afield, the traffic lights on the Rest and be Thankful would apear to be a fixture for some time yet.
Discussions are still ongoing between Scottish Power and Scottish Water with a view to connecting the system at the top of the Glen with the system at the Clachan. I consider this to be a good option for these residents although I will support their decision.
Please feel free to call at anytime with any issues or concerns you may have, and I will be only too happy to deal with them.
Alex McNaughton
