About the Cowal Way

A Long-distance Walk of 47 miles

The main walk is a 47-mile way from Portavadie in the West to Ardgartan in the East. This is divided into six shorter sections of between 9 and 17.6 kilometres.

The Cowal Way, conceived by Jim McLuckie and Colintraive and Glendaruel Community Council is a mini long distance footpath running the length of the Cowal Peninsula.

It starts in the South-West at Portavadie, beside Loch Fyne, and finishes in the North-East at Ardgartan, by Loch Long

It is 75.4 km (47 miles) long and climbs to 1540M (5050 feet) on the way.

The guide book, ‘The Cowal Way in Argyll’, divides the spine walk into six sections of between 9.1km and 17.6km, and also includes seven loop walks ranging between 8.9km and 16.6km.
