RURAL COMMUNITY TRANSPORT INITIATIVE

Colintraive and Glendaruel Community Minibus Proposal

The Scottish Executive will shortly be awarding funding for Rural Community Transport Initiatives. This applies to rural areas with populations of less than 10,000 and applications are expected to come from voluntary groups.

We would have to identify a need for a service based on existing transport provision in the area, and establish that the community will benefit from this, ideally putting forward a proposal for a selfsustaining project. The main points to consider are:

  • What are the existing transport issues, needs and/or problems?
  • Would a Community Minibus (for example) resolve this?
  • Who would benefit from a Community Minibus?
  • Are there enough people in the community to sustain such a service?
  • Are there enough people willing to staff such a service?
  • What would you require from such a service?

This is an opportunity worthy of serious consideration which may offer our community considerable social, economic and environmental benefits. Contact Sara Maclean (841298) with feedback. We hope to establish a committee of interested parties to champion the cause! (This could be you!)
