Dear Colleague

Forum Meeting about the NHS Clinical Strategy Wednesday 4 August 2004 at 2.00pm St Mun’s Parish Centre, Alexandra Parade, Dunoon

NHS Clinical Strategy
At the Conference in June the Forum made a commitment to continue to actively involve as many individuals and groups as possible in the Clinical Strategy consultation. The meeting on 4 August will therefore continue the round table discussions begun at the conference. We will update you and note the areas that people are still concerned about. All GPs in Cowal have also been invited.

Comments and Feedback on the Clinical Strategy
If you are unable to attend but have comments please either use the comments sheet [pdf format] and return to me, or contact me by `phone or email and I will bring your comment to the meeting. All comment will then be given to the NHS.

Wheelchair Accessible Taxis
You may also have heard that Argyll & Clyde Council has recently granted a license for a taxi with wheelchair access in Dunoon. The Forum is being told by some members that there is a substantial unmet need for accessible taxis in Cowal. We are trying to measure the degree of unmet need by conducting an informal survey, questionnaire enclosed. We also know that taxi owners are concerned about the number of licenses granted in Cowal. We will therefore share any information about unmet need shown in the questionnaires with all taxi service providers in Cowal, as well as with the Council.

Comments and Feedback on Taxis
If you have not already completed a taxi questionnaire [pdf format] it will be very helpful if you could and returned it to me before the meeting. Otherwise please bring it along. Please let me know if you know anyone who would also like to complete a questionnaire.

As always, if you have any questions about the meeting, please contact me.

Looking forward to seeing you on 4 August.

Regards

Irene

Cowal Community Care Forum Conference & AGM
Monday 28 June 2004, 1.00 - 4.00 p.m.
St Munn’s Parish Centre, Alexander Parade, Dunoon

The Forum warmly invites you to attend its third Annual Consultation Conference. The aim of the Conference is to offer service users the opportunity to comment on community care services in Cowal, and we hope to offer a varied and interesting programme. Please come prepared for a structured but flexible afternoon participants are encouraged to move around and participate in the topics of most interest to them. The Programme for the afternoon is included at the end of this letter.

There will be a Buffet Lunch at 12.00 noon before the Conference begins. The Forum’s AGM will be held between 12.15 - 12.45 in a side room. The AGM is open to everyone.

Following Welcoming Comments from Ronnie Smith, Chair, CCCF, I will give a short Presentation about the work of the Forum and future plans. There will be opportunity later in the afternoon for you to comment on the content of the presentation.

Gavin Brown will set the context for the Round Table Discussion on Health Services in Cowal by speaking briefly about how the Clinical Strategy and Health & Well-being of Cowal Review will fit together. Sally Munro, Locality Manager, Lomond & Clyde Primary Care Trust (Bute & Cowal), Viv Smith, Modernisation Support Team, Argyll & Clyde NHS Board, Rosemary Hill, Argyll & Clyde Health Council and NHS Modernisation & Support Team, Dr Erik Jespersen, Clinical Director, Argyll & Bute Local Health Care Council and Robin Creelman, Local Health Care Council public representative are among the people who have already agreed to take part in the discussion. The NHS Clinical Strategy Document will be published in early June and the Conference is an opportunity to gather responses to the recommendations in the document, which the Forum will send to the NHS Board.

You will see a Break planned in the Programme at 2.40p.m. This is to allow participants the opportunity to browse in the information sections planned as part of the Conference. In the Support for Carers Corner there will be an information library and a chance to speak to Mary Downie, Coordinator of Crossroads Caring for Carers, and Tricia Morrison, Development Worker, Argyll Carers’ Network.

In the Transport Issues Corner we hope the Forum’s eagerly awaited Transport Booklet will be available. We also expect a representative from the Scottish Ambulance Service to be present to talk with participants, and there will be opportunities to comment on transport services. Again, comments from the conference will be passed to service providers.

After the break participants can choose to continue looking at the information sections, return to the Round Table Discussion or take part in the Direct Payments Group, lead by Laura Porter. Dinah MacDonald, Direct Payment] Advisor, Argyll & Bute Council and Sue Elphick, Development Worker, Direct Payments Scotland will be part of this group. There will also be a Direct Payments information library. We hope participants in the Direct Payments Group will contribute their ideas and suggestions for a booklet the Forum plans to produce to help people in planning their own care.

Councillor Dick Walsh will bring the Conference to a close. There will be a wine reception to thank everyone who has attended.
